Diesel: The Invisible Killer?

Feb 10, 2015   //   by admin   //   Front Page  //  No Comments

Environmental Concerns

In light of current concerns for environmentalism, world leaders are grappling with how to reduce pollution following the recently altered European law and increased pressure from campaigners who claim that diesel fuel emissions are placing the population at a major health risk. Parisian Mayor Anne Hidalgo pledges to “put an end to diesel vehicles in Paris by 2020”, and this precedent has been mirrored by Boris Johnson in London with the increase in congestion charge for diesel cars to £20.

The fumes emitted by all diesel vehicles include tiny particles of nitrogen oxide which are harmful to health, proving to be a severe risk factor for people with breathing problems, alongside contributing to the smoggy atmosphere in large cities. According to the European Environmental Agency, air pollution is the top environmental risk factor for premature death in the UK, ensuring that the opinion on diesel as a fuel has taken a drastic U-turn in recent months. Wendy Mead, City of London Councillor and chair of the Corporation’s Environment Committee, voiced her support of the reversal in ideology, asserting that ‘it (diesel) was sold as an environmental solution, but it is in fact an invisible killer.’

The proposed ban in Paris aims to improve the quality of air in the city; in Paris people live on average 6 or 7 months less than people in other cities that aren’t exposed to the same levels of pollution. This pressure has inevitably disseminated to London, where Boris Johnson announced in December that he will be placing a budget of £330bn on the issue to ensure London is equipped with 2,400 hybrid buses, zero-emissions taxis and 10,000 street trees. This announcement came just weeks after he was forced to accept that Oxford street had some of the highest levels of nitrogen oxide in the world.

Wembley MOT & Service

So whilst diesel has seemingly become a dirty word, here at Wembley Motors we will continue to provide high quality Wembley MOT & Service deals for both diesel and petrol engines alike. Will the change in fuel ideology make a huge difference to the people of London who drive diesel vehicles? Johnson’s idea proposes 2020 as a realistic target, bearing in mind that people who currently use diesel fuel will generally need a replacement vehicle by 2020. In the meantime, contact us here at Wembley Motors on 020 8998 5970 for any queries regarding diesel fuel vehicles, and for the best MOT & Service Wembley has to offer.

Here at Wembley Motors we dedicate ourselves, yet are not exclusively bound, to specialist servicing for Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen models, alongside providing our services for any car, make or model. Our use of top of the range Bosch approved equipment ensures we have developed into a high quality Wembley MOT and servicing centre in a prime and central location.

M.O.T: When to Renew.

Your M.O.T should be renewed initially on the third anniversary of your car’s registration, and then annually from thereon in. Their purpose is to check that your vehicle is in compliance with environmental standards by assessing the level and content of the exhaust’s emissions whilst also calculating its adherence to strict road safety regulations. Failure to renew your M.O.T after its expiry date could ensure you are faced with a fine of up to £1000; the only exception to this, however, is if you are driving your vehicle upon a direct route to a pre-booked M.O.T test.

Wembley Motors M.O.T and Service Centre.

Our team at Wembley Motors can ensure that your vehicle never fails an M.O.T, by offering car servicing followed by an M.O.T  in a central location without the central price tag; catering not only to the specialist Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen vehicles, but also to any car of any make or model. This scope has allowed us to become experts in many different models of car, offering top of the range car services at affordable prices.

EU legislation demands ESP Traction Control systems for all cars

Nov 21, 2014   //   by admin   //   Front Page  //  No Comments

In 2009, European parliament agreed for it to become mandatory that all new vehicles are to be equipped with an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP). As of this month (November 2014), EU legislation now dictates every single passenger car and commercial vehicle model in the European Union must come with an EPS system built-in.

So what is an ESP Traction Control system? An Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) is a revolutionary system that could prevent up to 80% of all skidding crashes according to latest research. If your vehicle moves quickly in an opposing direction ESP recognises this as a critical situation and reacts immediately, using the vehicle’s braking system to steer the vehicle back on track independently of the driver. ESP traction control systems generate a counter-force that provides an intervention as the driver would intend which subsequently prevents skidding.

If you need help with this type of system for your car, or have an existing fault, please contact us on 0208 998 5970 and one of our friendly team find a suitable time to book you in.

These official Euro NCAP videos show the huge difference an ESP traction control system makes to braking.

A vehicle equipped with an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), has two other active safety systems. An Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) which prevents the wheels from locking during braking and a Traction Control System (TCS) which prevents the wheel from spinning when taking off and accelerating.

ABS, TCS and ESP were all first introduced to the market by Bosch. Being a Bosch Service Centre means we are experts in managing these systems. With our special Bosch diagnostics machine we can recognise problems specific to your car manufacturer and car model.

The ESP internal braking system has long been present in executive German car manufacturers. We are a recognised Audi service centre and VW Service Centre, and are specialists in dealing with intelligent car braking systems. Please note that we also readily welcome the opportunity to work on Smart car repair and are specialists in Mercedes servicing,

As all new vehicles in the UK must now come with an ESP braking system, if your ABS warning light or ESP traction control warning light illuminate, then please contact our experts at our Bosch service centre in Wembley straight away.
